Frequently Asked Questions
About Our Teaching Philosophy & Method
1. What is your teaching methodology? How is it different from other schools?
Our philosophy is simple: less grammar drills, more life! We believe that language is a tool for connection, not just a set of rules to memorize. We use a communicative and immersive approach. In our classes, you won't just learn about Spanish; you'll be speaking, listening, and using it from day one in real-world contexts. We focus on culture, music, and real conversations to make the language stick. We want you to stop translating in your head and start thinking and feeling in Spanish.
2. I'm a total beginner with zero experience. Is this program for me?
Absolutely! We love beginners. In fact, it's the perfect time to start because we can build a strong, confident foundation without any bad habits. We create a safe, judgment-free space where you can feel comfortable making mistakes (because that's how you learn!). We'll start with the basics and get you speaking from your very first class.
3. I've studied Spanish for years but I feel stuck. Can you help me break through my plateau?
This is our specialty. Feeling stuck usually means you have a good amount of theoretical knowledge but lack real-world practice and confidence. We'll diagnose exactly where you're getting stuck, focus on your specific challenges, and push you into real conversational practice. Our goal is to bridge the gap between the Spanish in your head and the Spanish you want to speak.
4. Do you teach Mexican Spanish or Spanish from Spain?
Our focus is on Mexican Spanish, specifically the vibrant and clear accent of Sonora. We believe that learning the specific slang, expressions, and cultural context of a region makes the experience richer and more authentic. However, the foundational grammar and vocabulary we teach will allow you to communicate effectively with Spanish speakers from anywhere in the world.
🖥️ About Online Spanish Classes
5. What level do I need to join your classes?
Our online classes are ideal for beginner to intermediate levels (A1–C2). We’ll assess your level in our first session and adapt the content to your needs and goals.
6. How long are the classes?
Classes are usually 60 minutes long. If you'd like a different format (like 30 or 90 minutes), just let me know!
7. How many times per week should I take classes?
That depends on your schedule and learning goals. The recommended time is 4 hours a week but some of my students take 1–2 classes per week to keep a good rhythm.
8. What is your teaching style?
My approach is dynamic, interactive, supportive, and focused on real communication. We combine grammar, culture, conversation, and vocabulary in a way that feels natural and fun. I use a variety of digital tools, from interactive whiteboards to videos and music, to ensure the class is engaging and never boring.
9. Are the classes one-on-one or in groups?
Most classes are one-on-one to focus fully on your progress. One-on-one classes are perfect for a completely personalized experience tailored to your specific goals and learning style. Small group options are available on request or for specific experiences. Small group classes (no more than 4-5 students) are great for practicing conversation with different people in a supportive environment.
10. What platforms do you use for online classes?
We use Zoom or Google Meet — whichever you prefer. I’ll also send you materials and follow-up support via email or Google Drive.
11. What if I need to reschedule or cancel?
Classes must be canceled or rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Otherwise, the class will be considered completed. All lessons must be booked and used within the time frame of your package.
🌎 About Immersion Experiences (in Mexico)
12. Do I need to speak Spanish fluently to join an immersion trip?
Not at all! Our experiences are designed for upper beginner to intermediate learners (A2–B1) — people who already know some vocabulary and want to practice in real life.
13. Where do the immersions take place?
Most of our immersions happen in Hermosillo, Sonora — a vibrant, cultural city in northern Mexico — and occasionally in other locations. You’ll be informed in advance.
14. Is Hermosillo a safe city for a foreigner?
Yes. Hermosillo is a major northern city known for its university and industrial sectors. Like any large city, it's important to be aware of your surroundings, but it is generally considered a safe place for visitors. We provide all our immersion students with a detailed orientation on navigating the city safely, including transportation tips and cultural norms, to ensure you feel secure and confident during your stay.
15. What’s included in the immersion experience?
It varies by program, but usually includes: personalized Spanish classes, cultural activities, guided conversations, visits to local places, and opportunities to connect with locals in meaningful ways. An immersion experience is a deep dive into the language and culture of Sonora. It typically includes structured Spanish classes in the morning, followed by real-world "missions" and cultural activities in the afternoon. This could be anything from a guided visit to the central market, a cooking class to make Sonoran food, a trip to a local ranch, or even joining a university music ensemble, like my Canadian student did! It's about living the language, 24/7.
16. Do you offer accommodations or help finding one?
Accommodations are not always included, but I’ll be happy to help you find a great place to stay that fits your needs and budget.
17. Will I have free time during the immersion?
Yes! The experience is structured, but you’ll also have personal time to relax, explore, or reflect.
18. Can I come alone or with someone?
Both are welcome! Many students come solo — and leave with lifelong memories and new friends.
💬 Other Common Questions
19. Do you offer a free trial or consultation?
Yes! I offer a short discovery session so we can get to know each other and find out if my program is a good fit for you.
20. How do I pay for classes or immersion programs?
Payments are done via PayPal, or a Mexican bank transfer. You’ll receive all the details once you confirm your spot.
21. Do you give certificates or progress reports?
Yes, upon request. I can provide informal progress feedback or a completion certificate if you need it for personal or professional purposes.
22. Do you use specific books or just conversation?
I create my own material and I can personalize every class, so we’ll combine curated materials with real-life content and conversations. No expensive textbooks required! I believe in using authentic, real-world materials. Not only do I create my own dynamic content but also use resources like articles, song lyrics, short films, and podcast clips. I want you to learn the Spanish that people actually speak, not "textbook Spanish." All materials are included and will be provided to you digitally.
